York Regional Police Seize Gun And Drugs At A RIDE Spot Check

York Regional Police have charged a 23-year-old man and seized a loaded handgun, as well as cocaine, when his vehicle entered a RIDE spot check in the City of Vaughan.
Police say on Saturday, January 5, 2018, shortly before 1 a.m., they were conducting a RIDE spot check in the area of Steeles Avenue West and Highway 400. A Hyundai Sonata entered the spot check and officers spoke with the driver. During the engagement with officers, the driver surrendered a bag of cannabis. As the investigation continued, a bag with what is believed to be cocaine was also located in the vehicle. The driver was placed under arrest, but resisted and attempted to flee. Following a short foot pursuit, the driver was taken into custody. During a search of the vehicle, a loaded handgun was located. A 23-year-old Toronto man faces several charges with a court date later this week.
