Will 3D Crosswalks Improve Pedestrian Safety? Montreal Residents Hope So

The city of Montreal is trying to help improve safety for their pedestrians with the help of 3 dimensional crosswalks.  It is definitely eye catching.

A region of the city repainted a crosswalk with boxes that appear to be rising above the road.  A city councilor believes the markings will cause drivers pause and  slow down. There is no clear proof that it actually works. In fact, one study by a master’s student at Western Michigan University found 3D crossings do not significantly improve safety. This concept has been spreading around the world from India, China, Iceland, Iraq and Mozambique, Montreal residents are willing to give it a try.
