What’s Open And Closed Civic Holiday Weekend

It’s the Civic Holiday Weekend, also known as Simcoe Day, in Vaughan it’s Benjamin Vaughan Day and because Monday is a holiday, not everything is open.

Good news if you were afraid of running out of booze, select locations of the LCBO and Beer stores will be open on holiday Monday including locations in Richmond Hill, Vaughan, King City, Aurora and Newmarket and Barrie and Collingwood.

Closed on Monday all Banks, government offices, no mail delivery.

If you wanted to do any shopping on Monday Aug 7, the following malls will be open…

Upper Canada Mall: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Hillcrest Mall: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Vaughan Mills: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Markville Shopping Centre: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

If you’re staying close to home…

Bradford West Gwillimbury:

All town offices, including library and leisure centre, are closed.

Recreation and drop-in programs are also cancelled.

Bradford West Gwillimbury transit will not be running.


The Aurora Seniors Centre will be closed Aug. 5 to 7.

The Aurora Family Leisure Complex pool will be closed on Aug. 7, but the gym is open for family time 10 a.m. to noon, the loft from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and youth gym from noon to 2 p.m. The fitness centre is also open from 7:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex pool is open Aug. 7, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for lane swim and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for leisure swim.

East Gwillimbury:

All town offices, including public library branches and recreation facilities, are closed Aug. 7.

Drop-in recreation programs are also cancelled.


All town offices, including the civic centre, Georgina Gym, Georgina Leisure Pool, Stephen Leacock Theatre, Sutton Arena, Georgina Ice Palace, Georgina Pioneer Village, the Link, the ROC and Club 55 will be closed Aug. 7.

King Township:

All town offices, including recreation centres and public libraries, will be closed Aug. 7. Drop-in recreation programs will also be cancelled.

The Nobleton Outdoor Pool will be open for public swimming on Aug. 7, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1:30 to 6:30 p.m.


All municipal offices, including the Magna Centre and Ray Twinney Rec Complex, Youth Centre and Sk8 Park, museum, public library, Seniors’ Meeting Place, Old Town Hall and Newmarket Theatre will be closed Aug. 7.

The Gorman Outdoor Pool will be open, weather dependent, from 1 to 5 p.m. for public swimming.


City offices, as well as recycling depots, community centres and arenas will be closed Aug. 7.

The Miller Transfer Station will be open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

City fitness centres located at the Centennial Community Centre, Cornell Community Centre and Library, and the Thornhill Community Centre and Library are open 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Thornhill Community Centre is open 1 to 4 p.m. for Duplicate Bridge programs.

The Angus Glen Pool is open 1 to 2 p.m. for lane swim as well as parent and tot swim, and 2 to 4 p.m. for recreational swim.

The outdoor Morgan Pool is open noon to 1 p.m. for lane swim and 1 to 5 p.m. for recreation swim.

Rouge River outdoor pool is open for recreation swimming, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Richmond Hill:

All municipal offices, including the operations centre, community centres, pools and arenas will be closed Aug. 7.

All public library branches will be closed Aug. 6 and 7.

And the Wave Pool is open Aug. 7 from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. for adult swim, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for leisure swim and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. for wave swim.


City hall, operations centre, community centres and animal services are closed Aug. 7.

Recreational programs  are cancelled Aug. 5 to Aug. 7. Public libraries closed Aug. 6 and 7.

Thornhill Outdoor Pool is open 10 to 11:30 a.m. for lane and parent and tot swim and 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. for public swimming.


The Whitchurch-Stouffville municipal offices, public library, museum and community centre, 19 on the Park, Stouffville Arena, Clippers Sports Complex and Soccer city will be closed Aug. 7.

The Leisure Centre pool will be open Aug. 7, 7:30 to 9 a.m. and 12:05 to 1 p.m. for lane or fitness swim, 1:05 to 4 p.m. for leisure swim, 9:05 to 11 a.m. for parent and tot swim, and 9:05 to 10 a.m. for aquafit classes.
