Do You Use Emojis In Your Professional Email? This Study Suggests It May Be A Bad Idea : >)

Q: This new study says using a smiley face symbol or emoji in emails at work makes you stand out as incompetent.

Even using the colon bracket to make the smiley face.  :  ) is frowned upon.

They say  using  : )  for a smiley face comes across as less than professional.  The study also showed that those who sent a smiley face emoji in their email were less likely to receive good and insightful information from the recipient.

Glikson says their experiments also showed that the lower perceptions of competence seemed to decrease the email recipients’ willingness to share information with the smiley sender. She adds that the people who received an email without a smiley generally wrote more detailed and content-related responses.
