Tired? Crave Late Night Snacks? It’s A Vicious Cycle

A lot of people can’t get through the night without a midnight snack, but health experts are not in favour of the late-night noshing.

Poor sleep quality is associated with nighttime snacking, and that tends to be unhealthy snacking — junk food.

Cravings for junk food are associated with increased risk of obesity, diabetes, and other health problems.

More than three-thousand adults were asked a series of questions about snacking, quality of sleep, existing health issues and whether a lack of sleep causes cravings for junk food.

Sixty per cent reported regular nighttime snacking and two-thirds reported that a lack of sleep led to craving junk food.
