It’s Time to Dig Up Your Undies!

During National Soil Conservation week in April, the Soil Conservation Council of Canada (SCCC) buried it’s official pair of Stanfields briefs at the Canada Agriculture & Food Museum in Ottawa. The idea was to see how healthy soil could  break down the cotton material.  When the undies were uncovered- a few days ago- there was nothing left of them except the elastic waistband – a key indicator of healthy, living soil.  SCCC Chair Alan Kruszek said: “…start thinking  of soil as a living, breathing entity…If you care for the soil, it will care for you..Not only does healthy soil provide us with food, fuel and fibre, it also plays an essential role in maintaining fresh air, clean water and extensive bio diversity.”
