The Lunar New Year- Celebrating The Year of the Pig

Today marks the start of the  Chinese New Year, a 15 day festival  celebrating China’s most important holiday. The holiday originated with the Chinese lunar calendar.  According to History.com, the calendars existence dates back to the 14th CenturyBC. , Shang Dynasty. The Chinese Calendar shifts-it was reset each time a new emperor took control. Festivities include: The giving of Red envelopes containing money.    Firecrackers  are a big part of the celebration and feasts usually featuring dumplings.  It’s a family event during the New Year celebrations for the family to get together and make the dumplings.   Shaped like crescents or spheres, the dumplings are thought to bring good fortune to ones home.  This is the Chinese year of the Pig which is associated with people having a beautiful personality and being blessed with good fortune!
