South Simcoe Officer Bitten During Arrest

On Friday, July 7, 2017, just before 12:30 a.m., a female victim was harassed and followed to Innisfil Beach Park by two male suspects. The victim’s vehicle was boxed in and friends arrived to assist her. A male suspect retrieved a gun from the trunk of his car and pointed it at one of her friends while threatening to shoot him. Responding officers located and arrested two male suspects and secured the firearm, which turned out to be a pellet gun.

At this time, a call for assistance was received from other police units investigating the original incident. A man and a woman, who were the parents of one of the arrested males, were causing a disturbance by yelling at officers and witnesses. Despite being cautioned, the two continued to obstruct the officers until they were arrested. During the arrest, an officer was bitten on the arm.

A 51-year old Innisfil man is charged with Obstruct Police Officer. He was released on conditions that he not contact any of the witnesses from the incident.

A 45-year old Innisfil woman is charged with Assault Police and Obstruct Police Officer. She too is on conditions to not contact any of the witnesses.

A 17-year old Innisfil youth was charged with Point Firearm, Dangerous Driving, Assault, and Uttering Threats. He is also released on a no contact condition.

A 17-year old Barrie youth was charged with Point Firearm and Uttering Threats. He is on a no contact release.

All four will appear in court in August.

The police officer received a superficial bite wound which was treated by paramedics at the scene.
