Several snowmobile related charges laid after weekend enforcement in Oro-Medonte

On February 11th and February 12th 2017 Barrie OPP conducted trail and frozen waterway enforcement.

Officers patrolled OFSC trails throughout Oro-Medonte, and contacted over 75 snowmobilers.  Officer’s laid several charges ranging from fail to stop for stop sign, no insurance, and failing to have snow machine registered.

Six recent snowmobile deaths have led the OPP and the OFSC to strongly urge snowmobilers to stop taking unnecessary risks while riding.

The latest series of incidents brings to 13 the number of snowmobile fatalities this winter, compared to eight deaths at this point last season. While lack of snow was a factor in last winter’s lower numbers, the constant over the past two seasons are the causal factors leading to the deaths.
