Raising Awareness in Orangeville for Be A Donor Month

April is “Be A Donor” month. The Amaranth Lions Club has been very active in this program and has increased awareness in Orangeville with the town now having a 40 percent registration rate. The Amaranth Lions Club was granted permission to place green ribbons on trees and light standards on Broadway. The green ribbon initiative in Orangeville highlights the importance of registering consent for organ and tissue donation. One organ donor can save eight lives and one tissue donor can possibly save 75 lives. You can register to be a donor online, in person, or by mail. Visit https://www.beadonor.ca/register. Installing ribbons are Lions Club members Mike Steele and Jane Blears (holding ribbon) along with Mike’s grandson Jameson Saleta and Mike’s daughter Michelle White. Mike received a heart transplant in 2009 and is now waiting on a kidney transplant.
