PC Leader Steps Down After Sexual Misconduct Allegations

A few months before Ontarians head to the polls, the province’s opposition leader is stepping down.

Sexual-misconduct allegations levelled against Ontario’s Progressive Conservative leader have prompted Patrick Brown to resign Wednesday morning, just hours after he’d called a news conference to address what he called “troubling allegations” about him.

Without giving details, Brown denied the allegations and vowed to defend himself in court.

C-T-V News has reported that two women have come forward with graphic sexual-misconduct allegations against Brown that date back to when he was a federal M-P for Barrie, Ontario.

One was reportedly still in high school when she says Brown, asked her to perform oral sex on him.

The other, a university student who worked in his office when Brown was a federal Conservative MP, alleges he sexually assaulted her after an event she helped organize.

A flurry of top staffers quit last night when Brown ignored their advice to step down — and hours later — Brown issued a statement that he was resigning as leader but refused to answer any questions from the press. (1)
