OPP Investigate Weapons Incident, Schools Put on Hold and Secure

Just before 1 p.m. on June 7, 2018, Orillia OPP officers were called to Matchedash Street North in Orillia with reports of people fighting and someone with an edged weapon.

Officers attended the scene and observed two males and a female with minor injuries. All three persons refused medical attention. The suspect had left the area prior to police arrival. As a precautionary measure the schools in the area were put on a hold and secure. Central Region Canine and Emergency Response Team were called in to assist in locating the suspect. The hold and secure was lifted a short while later without incident at any of the schools.

Police believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.  The investigation into this incident is continuing. If anyone witnessed this or has information regarding the circumstances they are encouraged to contact the Orillia OPP at 705-326-3536 or 1-888-310-1122.
