Q: With more and more online shopping and shipping means more work for courier companies. One company has come up with a unique way to save $ millions of dollars and time while at the same time shipping more goods. What are they doing?
A: UPS tries to avoid left turns. They structure their entire route to avoid left turns. Saves on idling, fewer accidents at intersections, and time and fuel.
The policy, developed by a UPS engineer, has been around for years, and the company says that in the past decade, it saved nearly 38 million litres of gasoline in North America, and cut 100,000 metric tonnes of carbon emissions.
