A diamond necklace featuring a flawless 163-carat diamond – the largest of its kind to be auctioned – has fetched $33.5million at a Christie’s event in Geneva. ‘The Art of de Grisogono,’ as it’s known, is made from white gold, diamonds and emeralds and designed by Swiss jewelry maker de Grisogono. It sold for $33.5m, that is $29.5m plus $4m premium – exceeding pre sale predictions from auctioneer Christie’s of a price of about $30m.
The piece took over 1,700 hours to make, Christie’s said. The colourless diamond was taken from a 404-carat stone found in Angola.
