Iconic ‘Sam the Record Man’ Sign To Be Resurrected!

Work has begun to restore a giant neon sign that once drew people to Toronto’s landmark  Sam the Record Man music store on Yonge Street.

The sign -2 huge spinning discs on a red background -was a familiar site in the downtown core and a beacon for music collectors.

Toronto’s Ryerson University acquired the sign when it bought  the stores property in 2008.

The giant neon sign – nearly 50 years old will be installed just a couple of blocks away from the original store site, on a building in Yonge-Dundas Square.

The charismatic Sam Sniderman began his business with his brother by opening a small store in Toronto in 1932. Sam opened his flagship store on Yonge street in 1959!
