Everyday Things for Cooking That Should Last A Lifetime: Chef’s Knife

Making dinner the other night, while  sharpening my trusty stainless steel chef’s knife-  I realized I got it  before taking cooking lessons from Lucy Waverman, the  famed chef, teacher and author.   I’ve had that knife for 40 years!  It’s a beautiful Henckels 9″ Chefs knife and has supplanted many a gadget thats come and gone through my kitchen.  If you buy a good chef’s knife and care for it properly,  you should never have to replace it.Avoid knives that have a serrated cutting edge or those than claim to ‘…never need sharpening”.  Good knives Do need sharpening. Buy a chef’s knife that you feel comfortable holding. And get a honing steel and use it regularly to keep your knife sharp.
