Drivers Lucky to be Alive After Serious Collision on the QEW in Mississauga

On Sunday, May 14, 2017, just before 10 p.m., the OPP were called to a four vehicle, collision on the QEW westbound in the area of Hurontario St. in Mississauga. Initial reports from the scene indicated that one vehicle was split in half and another vehicle, possibly a silver Honda had fled the scene.
A vehicle was located at the scene, split in half, as a result of colliding with a light standard. The driver and two passengers were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A third vehicle fled the scene but was located by Peel Police a short time later near Hurontario Street and the QEW. This driver was also transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say a number of witnesses indicated that the vehicles were racing prior to the collision. Both vehicles were observed at high rates of speed and weaving in and out of slower moving traffic while using the shoulders to pass other vehicles. The highway was completely reopened at 4:45 a.m.

The OPP have laid the following charges
Driver 1:  – A 21 year old male from Toronto.

Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Fail to Stop At the Scene of an Accident
Fail to Comply with Recognizance
Stunt Driving – Race a Motor Vehicle
Owner Operate Motor Vehicle Without Insurance
He is being held for a bail hearing today.
