Cop Buys Shirt And Tie For Shoplifter’s Job Interview

A Toronto teen with no money and no good clothes to wear to an upcoming job interview made the misguided decision to try to steal a shirt and tie from Walmart.  The 18-year-old quickly got busted by store security.  But that’s when the kid caught a serious break.  When responding police officer Niran Jeyanesan arrived and learned the full story, he did two things: He let the teen go without charge, and then the officer bought the clothes with his own money and handed them over.  “He wanted to go get that job,” explains Jeyanesan.  “That was in his mind.  I think he truly made a mistake.”  Critics might say the officer went too soft on the shoplifter, but a supervisor backs him up for using his discretion.  “Every circumstance is different, and in this particular case the individual had undergone some personal difficulties and the officer wanted to help him out.”
