Meaford’s downtown was buzzing with scarecrows, both live and inanimate, on Friday, September 28, as the Meaford Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival parade weaved its way along Sykes Street toward the Rotary Harbour Pavilion for an evening of family fun, entertainment, apple pie auction, and displays. As they have for some 20 years, adults young at heart and children of all ages dressed as scarecrows and joined the parade to celebrate the 22nd annual invasion while family and friends and out of town visitors lined the streets. The parade and festival are a proud occasion for the hundreds of volunteers who have spent months planning and preparing for this time of year when scarecrows take over the downtown, to the delight of thousands of viewers. Western-style scarecrows hit the streets early in September and will linger there till October 14th.
