The federal government has given the green light for a new
billion-dollar bridge connecting Ontario and Detroit to replace the
aging Ambassador Bridge.
Transport Minister Marc Garneau says the private owner of the
87-year-old bridge, the busiest border crossing between Canada and
the United States, can begin building its six-lane replacement.
Almost one-quarter of all goods traded between Canada and the
United States move across the Ambassador Bridge.
In 2015 around 2.5-million trucks travelled across the bridge and
4.2-million passenger vehicles traversed it as well. (The Canadian
