We have all heard that in order to connect with someone one must make eye contact and listen. There is also plenty of non verbal communication happening when we interact with others. Having your arms uncrossed and stance open also helps as does eye contact. Also a simple smile or nod goes along way to let people know they are being heard. One study says that simply nodding while listening to others will make people find you 40% more approachable and 30% more likable. It shows you are listening without interrupting and also acknowledges that the other person is being heard without saying a word.
