Thanks to the success of Bohemian Rhapsody, about Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, and the anticipation surrounding the upcoming Elton John movie Rocketman, music biopics are big business these days. Now, we can expect yet another one…about Celine Dion.
Variety reports that the $23 million movie, called The Power of Love, is slated to be released in 2020, and will feature Celine’s biggest hits, including “My Heart Will Go On.” Celine and her record company have authorized the project and given permission to the filmmakers to use her music.
The film is being directed by Valérie Lemercier, a French actress, screenwriter and director, who will also portray Dion. It’ll document Celine’s life growing up as the youngest of 14 kids in a poor Quebec family, through her rise to fame in Canada as a teen, and her eventual global stardom.
It’ll also cover Celine’s relationship with her manager René Angélil, who she eventually married, as well as her family.
The movie, which will be filmed mostly in French, will start shooting in March in France, Spain, Canada and Las Vegas. It’ll be released in France on December 2, 2020.
