96 Year Old Saves $9 Million And Leaves It To Form Scholarships

This a story about a remarkable woman named Sylvia Bloom.  She was a legal secretary for a law firm in New York for 67 years until she retired at  96.  She passed away not long after her retirement. The remarkable part is that her niece just discovered that Sylvia amassed millions over her lifetime on a secretary’s salary.  $9 Million actually.  Her niece nor anyone in her family new anything about this money.  Sylvia lived modestly in a rent controlled apartment, took transit and dressed modestly.

“She was a secretary in an era when they ran their boss’s lives, including their personal investments,” recalled her niece Jane Lockshin. “So when the boss would buy a stock, she would make the purchase for him, and then buy the same stock for herself, but in a smaller amount because she was on a secretary’s salary.”  Source

What is ever more remarkable and the part I like is that she left $8.6 Million to ensure that disadvantaged kids so they can get an education.
