2018 Winter Olympics Facts

Here are facts about the 2018 Winter Olympics.

The games last until February 25.

The venues are remote, but high-tech trains will get fans from Seoul to Pyeongchang in under 60 minutes. 

Hosting the 2018 Games has a $10 billion price tag.  The cost might seem high, but it’s much lower than the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. 

The 2018 Winter Olympics features 15 sports.

South and North Korean athletes will march together. 

Russia will not participate in 2018.  The nation is banned from competing due to doping issues, but Russian athletes can participate individually. 

The Nigerian Bobsled Team will debut this year.  This marks the first time female bobsledders from any African nation will compete in the Winter Olympics. 

Mixed Team Skiing will begin this year.  This new alpine skiing event features teams with male and female skiers combining their skills to win. 

Curling Mixed Doubles will debut this year.  Teams featuring one male and one female athlete will participate in this new curling event. 

Men’s Hockey might look different.  For the first time in more than 20 years, active National Hockey League (NHL) players won’t join Team USA.
